In contrast to the romanticized image of the Sicilian Mafia, the documentary explores the stark reality of a network of violence, blood and power. Photographer Letizia Battaglia stood up to the Mafia, and it is through her lens that we enter this brutal world of oppression, omertà, ritualized punishment and fear. A combination of rare archival footage and personal photographs will be guiding us through this nightmarish journey.
