Cinéma Laika

26th TIDF: Greek Premiere
Croatian film director Veljko Vidak recently spent more than a year in Karkkila, documenting step by step how a new cultural oasis, Kino Laika, founded by Aki Kaurismäki and writer Mika Lätti, grew up on the local factory estate and quickly gained great popularity and a cult reputation. Employing recycled wood, metal, and pre-owned furniture, Kaurismäki and the residents of Karkkila collaboratively craft Kino Laika. Surrounded by Cadillacs, motorcycles, rock bars, and the awe-inspiring beauty of nature, encapsulating the very essence of cinema’s enchantment, the venue is a place where the magic resides in its profound capacity to instigate change. A personal paradise of rushing waters, lush forests, and misty fields, a place where dogs still run free, beer flows cool and creativity breeds more creativity.
