The 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival will conclude on Sunday, March 15, with a powerful, Oscar-nominated documentary. The Festival celebrates cinema with a live broadcast of the OSCARS® Awards ceremony and an all-night party at the Olympion, while not forgetting the harsh reality that has dominated our planet in recent years.
The evening will begin with the screening of Mr. Nobody Against Putin by David Borenstein, co-directed by Pavel “Pasha” Talankin, which is nominated for a Best Feature Documentary. The screening will be followed by a party inside the Olympion complex, from the foyer to the Green Room and the Room with a View, featuring DJ sets, drinks, and surprises. Afterwards, in collaboration with the Festival’s Grand Sponsor, COSMOTE TELEKOM, the live broadcast of the 98th OSCARS® Awards ceremony will take place.
The Closing Film
The documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin, which was screened at the 27th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, follows Pavel “Pasha,” a teacher and events organizer at a small elementary school in a Russian town of 10,000 inhabitants. A beloved mentor known for his unconventional attitude, Pasha takes on a new and more dangerous role after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, exposing the devastating consequences of militarization as it infiltrates even schools.
His mission is called into question when he learns that his responsibilities include organizing daily state propaganda events. Struggling to cope with his guilt and helplessness, he decides to document how the war is changing his school. Director David Borenstein attended the Festival in March 2025 and stated, among other things, that his top priority was Pasha’s safety, noting that the documentary’s producer was in constant contact with major media outlets experienced in protecting people at risk. He also mentioned how moving it was to see the local community rally together in support of the teacher.
OSCARS® Night
After the screening, an Oscar-themed party will begin on our very own red carpet at the Olympion, featuring a DJ set inspired by film soundtracks, photo props, a themed cocktail, Fischer beer, and Jameson drinks. Optional black tie for those who wish to add a little extra glamour to the night.
The party continues inside and outside the theater, alongside the traditional pre-show and red-carpet live coverage broadcast on COSMOTE TV’s cinema channels. The evening concludes with the live broadcast of the OSCARS® Awards ceremony from Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15 (early Monday morning, March 16), where we will get to see our favorite stars.
The Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, one of the world’s most important documentary festivals worldwide, has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as an Oscars-Eligible Festival. This allows the award-winning film of the Festival’s International Competition section to be submitted for consideration for the Academy Award for Best Documentary.
COSMOTE TV holds the exclusive television broadcast rights for the event in Greece and is the only Greek television network that will be present on the red carpet of this major cinematic night.
See you on the red carpet!
