26th TIDF: European Premiere
A poetic journey to the heart of the Ural, where the discovery of an alien creature uncovers a haunting secret. The filmmaker returns to the area where her grandmother lived – a region some 1700 miles east of Moscow and close to a strangely deserted city with few inhabitants but seven huge cemeteries, which, legend has it, inspired Andrei Tarkovsky to shoot Stalker. And then she discovers this is also the most monitored point on Earth from space by CIA satellites since the Cold War – and also the most (radioactively) polluted point on planet Earth. An extraordinary story that comes from afar allows us to meet what is made strange at a close distance.
