When Fish Fly

A story about loneliness and the need for human contact. The basic characters are two women. Mrs. Fotini is an elderly, cranky widow, a political refugee from Istanbul. Anya, a thirty-year old econimic refugee from Russia, comes to help her with the housework. They share a common fate, having lost their country, their family, and in the end their identity. In these adverse conditions, a tender human relationship is born.The two women will help each other to find the courage to move on, one towards death and the other to a new life.

Vilka Tzoura

A filmmaker that lives and works in Athens and New York. She graduated from New York University and started her career as a producer and editor in New York, where she worked on many independent documentary and fiction film productions. Her two films have earned Best Picture awards in US and European Festivals. In 2003, she was awarded the New York Foundation of the Arts Fellowship as a director with a promising future. She recently received a grant fromthe NYSCA for her first feature film about female gangs in the USA.
