The Compass

Seventeen-year-old Mira lives with her family in a village in Northern Albania. Because of a violent vendetta, the family lives in isolation. Confronted with extreme poverty, Mira decides to learn to drive the family’s van in order to sell milk to the rest of the village.

Bujar Alimani

He was born in Patos, Albania in 1969. He studied Painting and Stage Direction at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tirana. In 1992 he emigrated to Greece. He worked as an assistant director on several Greek films. He lives and works in Athens. In 2002, he finished his first short film, The Kennel, which took part in many national and international film festivals. The film won the Best Balkan Film Award at the National Short FF in Drama, the 2nd Award at the Auburn IFF in Sydney, and the Best Albanian Film Award at the Tirana IFF in 2003. In 2006 he made his second short film, Gas, which was screened at many film festivals worldwide and won numerous awards. In 2007 he finished his third short film, The Compass, which participated in many film festivals and won three awards.
