Maria by Callas

Maria by Callas

For the first time, 40 years after her death, the most famous opera singer ever tells her own story – in her own words. Commemorating the centenary of the birth of Maria Callas, the Festival hosts a screening of a unique cinematic hommage, a documentary featuring previously unknown footage, unseen photographs, personal super 8 films, private live recordings, intimate letters, and rare behind-the scenes archival footage for the first time in color. A mark of a whole era, with images of Callas, Onassis, Marilyn Monroe, Alain Delon, Yves Saint-Laurent, J.F. Kennedy, Luchino Visconti, Winston Churchill, Grace Kelly, and Liz Taylor, among others.

Tom Volf

A French director who is active in both theater and cinema. His passion for Maria Callas motivated him to travel the world in search of the last surviving members of her generation and those who truly knew her. The result was the documentary Maria by Callas, and he also published two books about the opera diva. His third book about her, titled Maria Callas: Letters & Memoirs, became a successful theatrical production, with Monica Bellucci in the role of Callas, which in turn led to the creation of the documentary of the same name.
