Danish Docs

On the occasion of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2012, the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival is showcasing Danish documentaries. However, this year’s presidency is only a pretext, as for decades Denmark’s documentary production has held its place among the most developed in Europe. Driven by the urge to inform and create, talented Danish filmmakers are active all around the world, covering a wide spectrum of issues, from human rights and immigration, to ecology and social, political and economic injustices. The overtly political tone of ½ Revolution and Putin’s Kiss, the impressive archival footage of Harbor of Hope, the original denouncement in Ambassador, the focus on fascinating human interest stories (At Night I Fly, Au Pair, Ballroom Dancer, Love Addict, The Samurai Case,) and the tender “children’s” films (Siblings for Better or Worse), prove that the international acclaim of Danish documentaries is by no means incidental.
