We celebrate Music Day with melodies and cinema
The 4th Evia Film Project is setting up a grand music feast for its closing, on June 21st, a date that marks both the official onset of summer and the celebration of Music Day, also paying tribute in ideal fashion to Greek summer, which lies in the core of this year’s edition. The Evia Film Project has scheduled a series of special music events in Edipsos and Limni, whereas the festival will call it a wrap with the screening of the box-office smash hit Stelios by Yorgos Tsemberopoulos, a film that renders homage to the legendary Greek singer Stelios Kazantzidis, in the presence of the director, the producers and members of the film's cast and crew.
Music events
On Saturday June 21st, we celebrate Music Day, setting up music surprises at the most unexpected venues and places, ranging from traditional folk and éntekhno all the way to rebetiko, jazz and pop.
We meet up, from 10am to 2pm and from 6pm to 9.30pm, both in Edipsos and Limni, to get carried away by the magic of music, taking delight in music ensembles and bands of all sorts. We discover them along the way as we stroll around in Edipsos – at Kyma, the Thermopotamos Square, the Park, Kalyva and Pontios taverns – and in Limni – at the Mela Building, the Lela Karagianni statue, the Wooden Pier, Platanos tavern, Baroūs Café – among others.
All events have a free admission for the public. The full program will be announced soon.
The all-day celebration will be concluded with the live concert of the acclaimed singer Eleni Arapoglou, who will perform covers of famous Greek summer songs at Kyma, followed by a traditional “patinada” (street serenade) by the top-notch percussion and brass band Agia Fanfara, in a one-of-a-kind street party at the streets of Edipsos, prior to the screening of the film Stelios. The band will perform beloved traditional and contemporary melodies from Greece, the Balkans and the wider Eastern Mediterranean.
