The City and the City by Christos Passalis and Syllas Tzoumerkas

 Tuesday March 15, 20:00 - Olympion

On Tuesday March 15th, on the day of the completion of 79 years since the journey of the utmost barbarity of the first train that headed from Thessaloniki to Auschwitz, a Greek film that contemplates on the extermination of Thessaloniki’s thriving and populated Jewish community is screened at the 24th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, following its successful world premiere at 2022 Berlinale’s Encounters competition section. The City and the City by Christos Passalis and Syllas Tzoumerkas, divided into six chapters, balances between three genres, documentary, film-essay and fiction film, as the past and the present of a city converge at its cracks. The film is a co-production of the Alternative Scene of the Greek National Opera and Homemade Films, with the collaboration of Thessaloniki Film Festival, produced by Maria Drandaki and curated by Orestis Andreadakis.
