We welcome you to the 4th Evia Film Project!
The 4th Evia Film Project, the green initiative of the Thessaloniki Film Festival, is getting ready for its summer meetup with the audience. Dedicated to the notion of Greek summer, this year’s EFP invites the audience to a series of screenings, masterclasses, actions addressed to film industry professionals, children’s and students’ workshops, and unexpected music surprises. The 4th Evia Film Project is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture, from June 17th to June 21st, 2025, in Northern Evia, and more specifically in Edipsos, Agia Anna and Limni. All activities and events have a free admission for the public.
AN ALL-DAY DISCUSSION ON GREEK SUMMER
The Evia Film Project will host an all-day discussion in Limni under the title “Filming Greek Summer: light and myths, stereotypes and challenges”, which will delve into issues such as sustainability, tourism, the stereotypes that have built our typical and standardized view on Greek summer, their deconstruction, as well as the special conditions that render film production a highly demanding process during summertime. The event will be prefaced by Konstantinos Kartalis, Professor of Environment and Climate Physics at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, who will focus on the repercussions of climate change on Greek summer. Coming right up, film directors Sofia Exarchou (Animal) and Argyris Papadimitropoulos (Suntan), as well as DoP Simos Sarketzis, will take part in a discussion moderated by film critic Christos Mitsis (Athinorama magazine). The speakers will share experiences from the professional course in cinema, placing emphasis on the shootings of their films held during summertime in Greece. The all-day discussion will be concluded with the presentation “Place as Skylight, Gaze as Captive” by poet Yannis Antiohou, who will explore the relationship between the gaze and the summer light of Greece, as inscribed in memory and the landscape

The all-day celebration will be concluded with the live concert of the acclaimed singer Eleni Arapoglou, who will perform covers of famous Greek summer songs at Kyma, followed by a traditional “patinada” (street serenade) by the top-notch percussion and brass band Agia Fanfara, in a one-of-a-kind street party at the streets of Edipsos, prior to the screening of the film Stelios. The band will perform beloved traditional and contemporary melodies from Greece, the Balkans and the wider Eastern Mediterranean.
POSTER & SPOT
Film director and animator Fokion Xenos, drawing inspiration from the theme of this year’s Evia Film Project, has designed a series of summertime images, making a nod to the trademark old-school tourist posters for the visual identity of the festival. Let’s take a look at the EFP4 spot created by Fokion Xenos:
AGORA
Oriented towards the notion of discovery, the 4th Evia Film Project Agora adopts a holistic and innovative approach, interweaving cinematic creation with a green stance. All the above through a program of meetings with distinguished film industry professionals, an educational excursion in nature guided by WWF Hellas, and a self-awareness workshop. Firmly focused on its sustainability goal, Agora continues its path towards a circular economy model, inviting industry professionals to discover or reconnect with Greek and international projects that have been presented in TiFF and TiDF Agora in the past.
XR
We invite the audience to discover the most contemporary films of XR technology, which foreground eco issues and explore the repercussions of human intervention in the environment.
PRE-FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES
Prior to the official opening of the 4th Evia Film Project, the two EFP4 info points in Edipsos and Limni will be up and running, starting from Friday June 13th. On Sunday June 15th, we are inviting you to “Kyma” in Edipsos, from 7pm onwards, for a little treat and a DJ set by the sea.
“KAFENEIO” INITIATIVE
We are also inviting you to the new initiative of the Festival under the name “Kafeneio” (Traditional Café) that includes in situ meetings between the Festival’s people and acclaimed film industry professionals in the places that beats the heart of Northern Evia, such as cafés and meeting-working hubs of the region’s residents. This initiative is composed of targeted, organized and brief talks for exchanging views on issues such as sustainability, love for nature and topics of great interest for the local society.
The Evia Film Project is the Festival’s third pillar of activities, having added its name to the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, held in November, and the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, held in March. Its goal is to consolidate Northern Evia, a region severely hit by the 2021 calamitous wildfires, as an international hub of green cinema.
The Evia Film Project is carried out with the backing of the Greek Ministry of Culture. Important is the contribution granted by the MEDIA program, the Ministry of Tourism and ERT Valuable is the support offered by COSMOTE TV, the Festival’s Grand Sponsor, PPC, the Festival’s Strategic Partner, and Fischer, a steady companion of the Festival. The 4th Evia Film Project is actualized in collaboration with the Municipality of Istiea-Edipsos, the Municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna, and the Evia Island Port Authority.
