23rd TDF: World Premiere

In this documentary, we follow two parallel stories. Two epidemics strike the same city and evolve in tandem, one echoing the other. Coronavirus in 2020 and the plague in 1592. Citizens of Heraklion talk about their experiences during the first Covid-19 quarantine (March – May 2020). A Venetian officer sends his report to Venice describing the misfortunes that befell the inhabitants of Candia (Heraklion) due to the plague that struck the city in 1592 and lasted for 30 months. The ruminations of the narrator/director accompany the two stories, in the form of a personal diary.
