Fourteen

Fourteen

60th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Jo is a bohemian spirit, prone to mental breakdowns since her mid-teens, currently striving to keep her job as a social worker. Mara, a down-to-earth and well-balanced kindergarten teacher, is her best friend ever since Jo backed her up in a bullying incident, a long time ago. Mara does her best to be by her friend’s side in times of trouble, but, as Jo becomes increasingly dysfunctional and self-destructive, Mara is gradually driven to her breaking point. An elliptical chronicle of the last days in a longstanding friendship, set against a sullen background of undefeated loneliness.
