The Coca-Cola Kid

The Coca-Cola Kid

A marketing guru-experienced troubleshooter, employed in the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta, is urgently sent to a remote Australian district, in order to investigate a statistical abnormality: in this desolate piece of land, not a single drop of Coca-Cola is consumed! He is soon to discover the source of this defiance towards the world’s most dominant beverage: local folks prefer a soda pop manufactured and sold exclusively in their district. An oddball comedy that unravels in a most unpredictable way, displaying a cheerful juxtaposition of sensuality, politics and violence – a much celebrated triptych in Makavejev’s work.

Dušan Makavejev

Dušan Makavejev (1932–2019) is by far the premier figure in Yugoslavian film history. His work, deeply rooted in his native land’s experience, persistently defied the political and sexual taboos of his time and invited censorship in dozens of countries. Highly allegorical and of dreamlike texture, his films represent a sardonic and anarchist view on all kinds of oppressive regimes, sending out a universal message of liberation.
