Nobadi

60th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Heinrich, a 93-year-old cranky Viennese pensioner, wants to dig a hole to bury his recently deceased dog. When he comes across Adib, a young Afghan refugee begging for a job and willing to work for a pittance, Heinrich begrudgingly hires him to perform the task. At first, Adib manages to appease the high-tempered old man, but fear, prejudice and misunderstandings lurk around the corner. Nevertheless, the two men, representing two different and supposedly conflicting worlds, are about to bond in unimaginable ways, in the course of an out-of-tune and dramatic night of inner revelation and bold confessions.
