Mirjam is a reigning disco champion and the dance floor is her temple of ecstatic worship. Back home, a different brand of entrancement is in store, led by Mirjam’s zealot mom and preacher stepdad. The two of them run the local Evangelist church, a cradle of pop Christian anthems, exuberant brainwashing sermons and hipster proselytizing. Underneath the glitter surface of pious self-fulfillment, Mirjam harbors demons that cannot be exorcised: the disco mojo wears off and cleansing is sought in the darkest of places. A stark portrait of a lost soul that urges us to ponder over the notions of faith and salvation.
