Sea Fever

Sea Fever

60th TIFF: Greek Premiere

A workaholic and humorless doctoral candidate in Marine Biology accompanies a fishing boat, as part of her field study. Her awkwardness is compounded by that of the crew once they realize she’s a redhead, a traditional nautical harbinger of bad luck. Steering into a designated “exclusion zone” that’s been placed off-limits by authorities, the boat is disabled by a gelatinous substance secreted by glowing eel-like creatures, which infiltrate the water supply, threatening the crew with infection. An eco-thriller, of ominous premonition and alarming suggestion, that pays a delicate tribute to its glorious predecessors of the aquatic-peril subgenre.
