A woman of changing identity guides the viewers on a journey through Krabi’s history, folklore traditions, and iconic sites, in a hybrid structure that merges fiction, interviews and oral tradition into a fluid and sui generis experience. Past and present day (2562 by Thai Buddhist calendar standards) coexist in this southern Thailand’s paradise, soon to be devoured by rampant consumerism and invasive tourism. In one instance, a prehistoric couple exists alongside Krabi’s tourists, going about their daily lives oblivious to the millennia flow. Shot on Super 16, a playful and ambitious reflection on the notions of time, place, and memory.

Ben Rivers
Ben Rivers is a London-based artist and filmmaker whose work blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction, often portraying individuals who live beyond the margins of mainstream society. Over the course of his career, he has created around forty short and feature-length films distinguished by their poetic realism and tactile, 16mm aesthetic. Rivers received the FIPRESCI Prize at the 68th Venice Film Festival for his debut feature Two Years at Sea and won the EYE Art Film Prize in 2016. His 2019 collaboration with Thai director Anocha Suwichakornpong, Krabi, 2562, opened Locarno’s Moving Ahead section. His film Bogáncloch premiered in Locarno’s main competition, later earning Second Prize for Best Feature Film at Festival dei Popoli and the Prix Nouvelles Vagues at La Roche-sur-Yon. In 2023, he was honored with a full retrospective at Jeu de Paume in Paris. Mare’s Nest is his most recent work.
