“Struggling actor” is a euphemism for 50-year-old suave, nevertheless professionally washed-up Argentinian Sergio Garces, who is still reminiscing about a long-forgotten cover album of Serge Gainsbourg’s songs he had recorded in his youth. To him, the two of them share not only a slight resemblance and common initials, but the singer’s enticing aura as well. As the World Cup final between Argentina and Germany is closing in, plunging Buenos Aires in anticipation frenzy, Sergio’s streak of ridiculously bad luck is about to reach a record-high. A sui generis blend of offbeat dramedy, crime caper and surreal dark comedy, set against a backdrop of dead-serious sarcasm.
