Disco Boy

Disco Boy

64th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Belarusian Aleksei crosses European borders through fire and steel and joins the Foreign Legion with the false promise of obtaining French citizenship. Nigerian Jomo leads the insurgency against foreign interests coveting the Niger Delta. Two expendable fighters on a predetermined collision course define a hallucinatory allegory about the classism of war and the open wounds of colonialism. Featuring remarkable cinematography by Hélène Louvart (Silver Bear winner at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival), Franz Rogowski delivers yet another outstanding performance, increasingly reminiscent of the great Denis Lavant. With a pulsating soundtrack driven by the electronic sounds of Vitalic, Giacomo Abbruzzese’s debut film Disco Boy unfolds on the dance floor of a future that ended before it even truly began, winking conspiratorially at Claire Denis’s iconic Beau Travail.
