Silent

Amongst the constantly talking animals of a herd, the basic rule of normality is the theater of conversation. When a young animal loses its voice and goes into hiding, the talking herd can’t accept its weakness and follows the rule, speaking to it using monologues. The young animal remains silent and the talking herd stands confused and unable to decide whether it’s really sick or just pretending. But as the silent, isolated animal struggles to get its voice back, the talking animals surround its cage and the most distrustful of them attacks.

Yorgos Gkikapeppas

He was born in Athens and studied at the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos. He has been awarded twice the Prize of the International Federation of Film Critics (Fipresci) for his feature films Silent (2015) and The City of Children (2011). For the latter, he also received the Best Film Award from the Panhellenic Film Critics Association and three awards from the Hellenic Film Academy. His third film Silent Night (2021), a docudrama based on the final hours of Ioannis Kapodistrias, was screened at the 22nd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. He has also directed in the theater and was honored with the Young Playwrights Award by the Ministry of Culture. On television, he has directed various series, including Greek One Act Plays (ET1), Mystery Stories (ANT1) as a member of the screenwriting and directing team, O giteftis (ANT1), 4 (Mega), The Life and Work of Ioannis Kapodistrias, The Birth of a Nation, and The 30s Generation (COSMOTE TV), Liar (Alpha), The Bracelet of Fire (ERT), and the series The Wilder, based on his own screenplay.
