58th TIFF: Greek Premiere

German director Valeska Grisebach returns after twelve years of silence with her own version of a Western. According to her own definition of this male-dominated genre, the cowboys are German employees of a construction company that undertakes projects in Eastern Europe, the Ιndians are Bulgarian natives that seem exotic – either amusing or dangerous – to the eyes of the intruders, but the West remains wild and constantly oriented towards “growth.” Through the eyes of a lonesome observer who supervises a big project on the Greek-Bulgarian border, we witness a new clash of civilizations.
