Columbus

Columbus

58th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Casey is born and bred in Columbus, Indiana; she works in the local library and lives with her mother. Jin arrives in town shortly after his father, a famous professor of Architecture, has a stroke before a lecture of his. The two of them will come closer as a result of their love for modern buildings and their desire to lead another life. Every shot in Columbus is an impressive visual achievement, not only because it reveals the splendor of the architectural experiments of modernism overseas, but primarily because it records in detail (in the fashion of Yasujiro Ozu) the microscopic, fragile structures upon which love relationships are build.
