Stone Wedding

Nunta de piatră

58th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Stone Wedding consists of two independent stories which take place in a Carpathian village. In the first, a widow is trying to raise money to save her dying daughter. In the second, two wandering singers kidnap a bride from her wedding. The film, the fruit of a collaboration between two emblematic directors of the ’70’s, draws on folk ritual and storytelling traditions to reflect on the circle of life. Poetical, with scarce dialogues - as the narrative is weaved through traditional songs of Transylvania - and majestic black and white photography, Stone Wedding is a highlight of Eastern European cinema.
