Pelican Blood

Pelikanblut

60th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Wiebke is a horse trainer and a single mother, who decides to adopt a second girl. Right from the start, a religious painting of a mother pelican resurrecting her dead offspring, feeding it with her own blood, provides an ominous sign. Indeed, like a self-fulfilled prophecy, the new kid on the family block engages in an erratic behavior, spreading discomfort, unease and fear. Wiebke, unwilling to accept her “defeat” as a mother, dismisses any scientific explanation, stepping into irrational, paranormal and dark waters. A gloomy parable of slow-paced terror that explores the uncharted and vertiginous paths of motherhood.
