60th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Detective Samad of the Anti-Drug Task Force takes on Nasser, a notorious drug kingpin, in a fierce battle to stem the rising tide of drug addiction in Iran. Hold your horses though, for this is not a “good vs. evil” duel, but a Sisyphean battle of perpetual defeat. The initial plot of a fast-paced crime thriller soon takes the shape of a canvas depicting the endless dead-ends of a nightmarish world of addiction, greed and death. Α sobering reflection on the inefficiency and the powerlessness of both legal instruments and good intentions, when facing a hydra monster.
