Mars Express

Mars Express

64th TIFF: Greek Premiere
Drawing from some of the most iconic sci-fi references in pop culture and fueled by the inexhaustible tradition of manga, Mars Express propels itself to the Mars of a dystopian future, delivering a thunderous cyberpunk noir that feels like an animated homage to Blade Runner and the French answer to Ghost in the Shell. A private detective and her android assistant embark on a mission to the Red Planet to locate a notorious hacker but this mission gradually ensnares them in a dark high-tech conspiracy. This conspiracy threatens the fate of humans and robots alike in a world where artificial intelligence and corruption create an explosive cocktail of universal destruction. Retro-futuristic science fiction adventure meets Black Mirror's most pressing concerns in Jérémie Périn’s debut directorial effort, which strikes the perfect balance between spectacle and substance.
