Dogtooth

Κυνόδοντας

A father, a mother, and their three kids live in a house on the outskirts of a city. There is a tall fence surrounding the house. The kids have never left the property. They are being educated, entertained, bored, and exercised in the manner that their parents deem appropriate, without any influence from the outside world. They believe that the airplanes flying through the sky are toys and that zombies are small yellow flowers. The only person allowed to enter the house is Christina. One day Christina gives one of the daughters a headband as a present but asks for something in return.

Yorgos Lanthimos

Yorgos Lanthimos (1973) is a visionary Greek filmmaker born in Athens, whose unique style and genre-defying cinema have reshaped contemporary film. Emerging from the Greek Weird Wave with Dogtooth (2009), which won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes and an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, Lanthimos quickly established himself as a singular auteur. The Lobster (2015) earned the Jury Prize at Cannes and an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. His international breakthrough came with The Favourite (2018), which garnered ten Academy Award nominations, winning the Oscar for Best Actress (Olivia Colman), as well as the Grand Jury Prize in Venice. With Poor Things (2023), he triumphed again, winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and later four Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Emma Stone). Since Poor Things, Lanthimos has released Kinds of Kindness (2024), which premiered In Competition at Cannes, winning the Best Actor award (Jesse Plemons), and Bugonia (2025), which premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, confirming his ongoing creative momentum. Lanthimos’ films, known for their surreal premises, razor-sharp humor, and disquieting psychological depth, have made him one of the most celebrated auteurs of his generation.
