Documentary theater workshop: From Film to Theater Documentary

The 21st Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, in collaboration with the Greek Film Center and production company plays2place productions, hosts a documentary theater workshop, planned and carried out by theater director and social anthropologist Martha Bouziouri.

This innovative undertaking, held in the framework of the Festival’s sidebar events, navigates through the structural and component elements of documentary theater, by analyzing the techniques put into practice, the challenges faced, the issues attended to, as well as its correlation with the area of ethnographic research.

Participants will have the chance to discover in hand the historical and social conjuncture that gave birth to this unique theater genre, while at the same time experiencing an in-depth empirical familiarization with all creative stages of conceiving and executing a theater documentary. In the course of this workshop, participants will be asked to create their own piece of documentary theater, which will focus on the notion of refugee, both as an identity and as an experience.

The results of the workshop will be showcased on Friday, March 8, at Pavlos Zannas theatre as a work in progress, followed by an open discussion with the audience of the 21st TDF.
