The 4th Evia Film Project kicked off summer season with a bang

The 4th Evia Film Project, the Thessaloniki Film Festival’s green initiative, carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture, was held from June 17 to 21 in Northern Evia — Edipsos, Limni, and Agia Anna — was completed with great success. This year, 13 short and feature-length films and 3 VR films were screened in Northern Evia. Additionally, 4 masterclasses, 4 educational workshops, an all-day discussion, 4 parties, and 18 musical events celebrating Music Day were held, while 6 projects were presented to professionals from around the world. All events were free and open to the public.

More than 4,000 people — mostly local residents — watched the film screenings, masterclasses and educational workshops. In total, 500 directors, producers, sales agents, actors, and journalists from Greece and abroad attended the 4th Evia Film Project.

Watch the experience video of the 4th Evia Film Project:

The 4th Evia Film Project reimagined all aspects of the Greek summer — environmental, touristic, cultural, economic, and political. We experienced it anew through cinematic imagery as well as through our own personal encounters, in a process that invited us to reflect on the essence of the Greek summer and how Northern Evia, after the devastation it faced, can offer a new definition; a new way to enjoy and share summer in harmony with our environment. As part of this exploration, the 4th Evia Film Project organized a symposium in Limni titled “Filming the Greek Summer: Light and Myths, Stereotypes and Challenges.” Participants included Konstantinos Kartalis, Professor of Environmental Physics and Climate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a member of the European Union’s Scientific Committee on Climate Change; filmmakers Sofia Exarchou and Argyris Papadimitropoulos; DoP Simos Sarketzis; film critic Christos Mitsis (Athinorama magazine); and poet Yiannis Antiochou. The scenic boat journey from Loutra Aidipsou to Limni aboard the Elisavet II was generously sponsored by Elisabet Cruises and the Port Authority of the Island of Evia.

The festival called it a wrap with the triumphant screening of Stelios by Yorgos Tsemberopoulos at the packed Apollon open-air cinema in Edipsos. The film is a tribute to the legendary Greek singer Stelios Kazantzidis, produced by Tanweer Productions in co-production with COSMOTE TV.

This year, for the first time, screenings were also held at the Fishing Shelter in Agia Anna. There, a special screening was held of the film L’éclairage revient / Waves of Light (2025) by Pantelis Kalogerakis, Michalis Kalogerakis, and Panagiotis Andrianou. The film was created as part of the online festival Waves of Light, organized by the Greek National Opera in collaboration with PPC (Public Power Corporation), under the artistic direction of Giorgos Koumendakis.

The Evia Film Project was carried out with the backing of the Greek Ministry of Culture. Important is the contribution granted by the MEDIA program, the Ministry of Tourism and ERT. Valuable is the support offered by COSMOTE TV, the Festival’s Grand Sponsor, PPC, the Festival’s Strategic Partner, and Fischer, a steady companion of the Festival. The 4th Evia Film Project was actualized in collaboration with the Municipality of Istiea-Edipsos, the Municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna, and the Evia Island Port Authority.
