52nd TIFF: Alexander Sokurov's warm message of greeting

Alexander Sokurov's warm message of greeting

On the occasion of last night’s screening premiere of his film Faust (Gold Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival), Alexander Sokurov sent a warm message of greeting to the audience. “I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being here tonight to watch our new film. Your presence here is a symbol of trust, as it reveals your readiness in giving the director, the crew and our work two hours from your own lives. It is generous on your part and I appreciate it deeply.
I would particularly like to thank the –for many years now- viewer, colleague and friend, Dimitri Eipides, an indefatigable worker in the art of cinema, through the good times and the bad. We all know how difficult it is to be in charge of a festival: it not only requires funds, but also courage, forcefulness, willpower and lots of love. But he knows what he’s doing: when the lights go down and the images appear on the screen, for a while people forget these hard times and feel that they are alone no more. This is the most important thing of all”, the director said.
The film is included in the Special Screenings of the Open Horizons section, which is financed, along with other 52nd TIFF activities by the European Union – European Regional Development Fund as part of the Regional Operational Program of Central Macedonia, 2007-2013.
