ORESTIS ANDREADAKIS NAMED ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE
THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
 
 
Film critic Orestis Andreadakis is the new Artistic Director of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF), appointed by a decision of the Board of Directors, following a recommendation by TIFF’s General Director, Mrs. Elise Jalladeau. On the occasion of the changes in the Festival’s management and given the organization’s extended annual activity, the General Director and the Board of Directors will proceed to changes that will reform the structure of the Festival’s artistic program, by establishing Program and Film Selection departments for both the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. Very soon, these departments will be staffed by experienced and renowned professionals who will work in collaboration with the Artistic Director.
 
Orestis Andreadakis was born in Heraklion, Crete, in 1963. He graduated from the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos and from 1986 to 1991 he occasionally lived in France and Switzerland, where he attended courses on French literature, art history, film theory and art installation. In addition, he worked as assistant director, production assistant and extra in several French cinema and television productions, while he also co-directed a video installation about the church of Saint-Eustache. He worked as a film critic in the newspapers “Eleftheros Typos” and “Avgi”, as well as in “Cinema” magazine, where he was its director from 2007 to 2016. From 1994 to 2000 he collaborated with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival as coordinator and translator of the festival’s press conferences. From 1995 to 2016 he worked as a film journalist in Mega Channel, where he created the film program “Rantevou gia Cinema”. In 1995 he participated in the establishment of the Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights, where he was artistic director from 2007 to 2016, while in 2011 he participated in the establishment of the Athens Open Air Film Festival. In 2013 he was honoured as Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
