Independent Awards

 

FIPRESCI Award
Two FIPRESCI Awards, one for Best film in the International Competition section and one for the Best Greek film that will have its premiere in the Festival will be presented again this year by the International Federation of Film Critics. The committee, consisting of distinguished film critics, only considers films having their Greek premiere at the Festival.


“Human Values Award” of the Hellenic Parliament
The television station of the Hellenic Parliament (Hellenic Parliament TV) presents its “Human Values” award to an International Competition section film.


Greek Film Center Awards

In the framework of the 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the Greek Film Centre will award three prizes:
€5.000 euro cash prize to a debut feature by a first-time director that premieres in the official selection.
€3.000 euro cash prize to a film participating in the VR Competition.
€1.500 euro cash prize (Best Location Award by GFC’s Hellenic Film Commission) to a location manage (or director, in case there is no location manager in the film’s crew) to a debut feature by a first-time director that premieres in the official selection.

 

Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation Awards
The Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ΕRT S.A.) will award a cash prize (3.000 euro) to the Greek film that will win the Fischer Audience Award and a second cash prize (2.000 euro) to the Greek film that will win the FIPRESCI award.

Fischer Audience Awards
Fischer, the official sponsor of the Festival’s Audience Awards for the last decade, will give three separate prizes to films that have their first public screening at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, in the International Competition program, the Balkan Survey program, and the Open Horizons program respectively. In addition, Fischer will give the Michalis Cacoyannis to the Greek film that will gather the most viewer votes.

Youth Jury Awards by the Students of the Thessaloniki Universities
The Youth Jury Award comprises students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Macedonia and will present the Best Film Award and the Special Jury Award. Eligible for these awards are Greek films having their premiere at the Greek Film Festival.

Greek Association of Film Critics (PEKK) Awards
The Greek Association of Film Critics (PEKK) awards, as every year, the Best Greek and Best International Film that is screened in the official selection of the 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The decision is made by the General Assembly of the members that have attended the Festival.

The Mermaid Award - Thessaloniki Queer Film Prize
The Mermaid Award is an independent prize for the best LGBTQI-themed film of all those participating in the official program of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.

WITF GR Award
The WIFT GR Award is presented by the Greek Chapter of WIFT (Women in Film & Television) to a film from the International Competition or the Out of Competition programs for the best woman's contribution and presence in front or behind the camera.
