By-standing and Standing-by

An independently produced documentary that memorializes and contextualizes the nearly-forgotten tragic story of the Holocaust’s affect on Europe’s ancient Jewish Community in Thessaloniki, Greece. Through testimonies of survivors and interviews with historians and other experts, the documentary explores difficult stories about the collective trauma, different cultural stereotypes, as well as the manipulation of the official narrative of historical events. In addition to personal testimonies, the film includes interviews with renowned historians, such as Rena Molho, Steven B. Bowman, Kathryn E. Fleming, Stratos Dordanas, Maria Kavala, and Paris Papamichos-Chronakis.
