Let the Canary Sing

Let the Canary Sing

26th TIDF: Greek Premiere

A fast-paced and music-rich portrait of uncompromising American singer Cyndi Lauper chronicling her meteoric ascent to stardom and her profound impact on generations through her music, ever-evolving punk style, unwavering feminism, and tireless advocacy. Through exclusive never-before-seen footage, candid interviews, and untold stories, we follow Cyndi as she fearlessly blazes her own trail – from her upbringing in a lower- class Queens neighborhood through her rebellious youth pushing back against intolerance, to achieving chart-topping success in her 30s, and continuing to create, innovate, and champion her beliefs four decades later. Alison Ellwood’s spirited endeavor takes the audience on a nostalgic exploration, with a boisterous narrative anchored by the inimitable Lauper herself.
