Nagima

Nagima is an ugly, illiterate and uncommunicative young woman who grew up in an orphanage. She rents a tiny room on the outskirts of the city of Almaty with Anya, her best friend from the orphanage. Anya had met a young man and wanted to get married, but it didn’t work out. As a result, she is now nine months pregnant. These two lonely souls, who met at the orphanage at an early age, are the closest thing to family each other has. Anya dies at childbirth. The newborn girl ends up at the orphanage. A vicious circle. Nagima has lost the person closest to her and her life seems to have no meaning any more. She goes to her mother, the woman who abandoned her all those years ago. Her mother refuses Nagima for a second time and sends her away. Nagima goes to the orphanage to adopt Anya’s child. Her request is refused because she has no home, no husband and no permanent job. Nagima decides to steal Anya’s daughter...
