Leviathan

Kolia lives in a small town near the Barents Sea, in North Russia. He has his own auto-repair shop. His shop stands right next to the house where he lives with his young wife Lilya and his son from a previous marriage, Roma. Vadim Shelevyat, the Mayor of the town, wants to take away his business, his house and his land. First he tries buying off Kolia, but Kolia cannot stand losing everything he has – not only the land, but also all the beauty that has surrounded him from the day of his birth. So Vadim Shelevyat becomes more aggressive...

Andrey Zvyagintsev

He graduated from the Novosibirsk Drama School (1984) and from the GITIS acting faculty in Moscow (1990). He was involved as an actor in several stage projects, TV series, and films. In 2003 he debuted with the feature film The Return, which won the Golden Lion at the Venice IFF and was awarded the title of European Discovery of the Year at the European Film Awards in 2003. His next film, The Banishment, was selected for the Cannes competition in 2007, where the actor in the lead role, Konstantin Lavronenko, won the Best Actor Award.
