The Halt

Ang Hupa

60th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Philippines, 2034. The country has plunged into darkness: the sun has vanished in the aftermath of a colossal natural disaster, while a paranoid despot-president consolidates his rule by fostering the image of a leader anointed by God. The only visible hinting at this post-apocalyptic scenery is the omnipresent army of social control-imposing drones, as everything else points out to modern-day Philippines. A dystopian allegory of a gloomy present engulfed in a chaos-driven future that captures the “cataclysm of the country’s soul.” A politically charged blend of sci-fi and horror, that spirals down into an abyss of silent terror and corrosive oblivion.
