Shortcomings

Asian Americans Ben and Miko, a young couple, are struggling to make ends meet – he as an aspiring director and she as a writer. Delightfully poignant, Ben grapples with his dual identity and insecurities. However, when Miko announces that she's moving to New York, Ben is forced to grow up. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by the great American cartoonist Adrian Tomine (who also wrote the film’s screenplay), Shortcomings is a spirited debut filled with humor and energy, capturing the zeitgeist of a new, restless generation of Americans while simultaneously addressing pressing questions of racial identity, engaging in a conversation reminiscent of the finest moments of Woody Allen or Noah Baumbach.
