A mother loses her daughter to femicide. Instead of reacting with rage against the world, she mourns in her own different way: by going out, speaking publicly, and fighting to trade love for patriarchy for the sake of our society. By interweaving every-day moments with the story of our protagonist, the film tries to describe the banality of this evil. Mothers of Daughters pushes the boundaries of documentary filmmaking by poetically and sensitively trying to find imagery for this unbelievable story, that could happen to any of us.

Elke Lehrenkrauss

Elke Margarete Lehrenkrauss is a Berlin-based filmmaker and visual artist. In 2012, she graduated with distinction from the KHM Academy of Media Arts Cologne as a fellow of the German National Academic Foundation. In 2003, she received her diploma in Video Arts from the HSLU Lucerne University of Art and Design. Her films and artworks have been exhibited on festivals, in museums and galleries worldwide and been multi-awarded.

Youla Boudali

Youla Boudali is based in Athens. She studied theater, cinema, and acting in Athens (BA), Crete (MA), Utrecht, London, and New York. She is working in theater and cinema as writer, director, actor, and producer. Her theater work has been presented at independent theatres, the Greek National Theatre, the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, and the SGT Onassis Foundation. In cinema, she has co-signed the scripts of the acclaimed feature films Homeland (Venice Critics’ Week 2010) directed by Syllas Tzoumerkas, A Blast (Locarno International Film Fesrival 2014), directed by Syllas Tzoumerkas, The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea, directed by Syllas Tzoumerkas (Berlin Film Festival 2019). She has collaborated in the development of the script of the film I Will Cross Tomorrow by Sepideh Farsi. She has recently written and directed with the German director Elke Lehrenkrauss Mothers of Daughters, a docu-fiction short film for the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture. Her film credits as an actor include among others roles in Homeland by Syllas Tzoumerkas, Babeldom by Paul Bush (Rotterdam IFF 2012), In the Fade by Fatih Akin (Cannes Film Festival 2017), Her Job by Nikos Labot, The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea by Syllas Tzoumerkas (Berlin Film Festival), and The Arc by Aristotelis Maragkos (in post-production). She is a member of the Hellenic Film Academy.
