Sailing Souls

The story of a boy enchanted by the sea, illustrated through his meetings with old fishermen, who teach him the art of the sea; his trips during the seventies to the smaller Aegean islands, such as Koufonissi, Kassos and Castellorizo; the local feasts and the strange tales about legendary fishing boats; and his solitary journey through time and the Aegean Sea. An affectionate look at the fate of wooden fishing boats, as they grow old, retire and finally disappear. Most of the film’s characters are real seamen and islanders. Recent filming is complemented by archival footage from the director’s travels around the Aegean during the past 35 years.
