It’s Raining in the House

Il pleut dans la maison

64th TIFF: Greek Premiere
Two siblings, 15-year-old Makenzy and 17-year-old Purdey, live almost on their own in the house their grandmother left them. With their parents absent, the two children only have each other to navigate through life’s challenges. Seldom has the transition from the carefree days of adolescence to the harsh and demanding world of adulthood been captured in contemporary cinema as unpretentiously and artistically as it is in the remarkable It’s Raining in the House. A poignant coming-of-age film, filled with understated intensity, authenticity, and poetic beauty, it masterfully captures the journey of two children compelled to grow up without resorting to melodrama or emotional manipulation. Simultaneously, it offers us the chance to appreciate two remarkably naturalistic performances by its wonderful leading pair.
