Belonging

Aidiyet

60th TIFF: Greek Premiere

An unseen narrator recounts coldly the murder committed by himself and his fiancée. The victim was none other than his fiancée’s mother, who was stubbornly unapproving of the couple’s relationship. The account is intertwined with images of an oblique urban landscape that radiates profound melancholy. Subsequently, the ambiance gets warmer and endearing, as we witness the first spark of love between the two killers-to-be. Drawing inspiration from his grandmother’s murder by his aunt and her lover, the director contemplates, without being judgmental, on the unstated and incomprehensible forces that forge human motives and behavior.
