Divinity

Divinity

64th TIFF: Greek Premiere

An uncompromising vision that pushes the emerging retro sci-fi genre to a stunning and grotesque future, follows an otherworldly human existence in a barren wasteland. Following in his father’s footsteps, a man who has attained immortality, both literal and figurative, is the pharmaceutical mogul who has dedicated his life to Divinity, a civilization-altering substance that grants its users eternal youth – to devastating effects for humanity. Two mysterious brothers arrive with a plan to abduct the mogul, and with the help of a seductive woman named Nikita, they will be set on a path hurtling toward true immortality.  Produced and presented by Steve Soderbergh, this stunningly stylized, mind-melting head trip (nasty, brutish, sexy, and shiny in equal measure) offers a stunning retro-futuristic vision of humanity in which our worst has become a glorified aesthetic pursuit, a goal in itself. A cult classic in the making.
