Vermines

64th TIFF: Greek Premiere
Kaleb, a young man surviving through odd jobs and harboring a fascination for exotic creatures, stumbles upon a venomous spider at a market and decides to take it back to his apartment. Little does he know that this spider belongs to a highly dangerous and rare species and it only takes a moment for it to escape and reproduce, turning his living space into a deadly trap. Simultaneously, the police seal off the building, trapping the residents inside. A horror thriller featuring deadly insects, reminiscent of the 80s style, finely tuned with charming vintage narration, characters that genuinely engage your emotions, and a brilliant socio-economic allegory embedded at its core. It serves as a perfect example of entertaining cinema that can both thrill and leave you breathless while delivering profound messages.

Sébastien Vaniček

Sébastien Vaniček grew up in the Parisian suburbs. He has always liked to draw, especially comics. At the age of 15, he stole his father's camcorder and started filming insects. He then discovered editing and the importance of sound, and developed his love for visual arts. He made most of his short films with his enthusiastic group of friends. Today, Sébastien Vaniček is a multi-international-awards short films winner. Vermin, his first feature, is a genre film with an important social point of view - a "natural horror" where spiders serve as allegory.
