The paths of two fundamentally different people cross because of love. A 19-year-old promising Roma boxer becomes obsessed with a 34-year-old married theater actress. On a superficial level, they have nothing in common, but they both – fragile and dynamic as they are – struggle to prove their identity, exceed their limits and achieve their goals. Inevitably, they come closer and closer. Love stories are not that common in Romanian cinema. However, Florin Serban chooses to narrate a startling love encounter that is much more than that.

Florin Serban

He was born in 1975, in Romania. He studied and taught at New York’s Columbia University and holds an MA in Film Directing (Summa Cum Laude). He also graduated from the Romanian National University of Theater and Film in 2002. He holds a BA in Philosophy and an MA in the Philosophy of Culture and Hermeneutics. During his studies, he wrote and directed short films and documentaries, and won numerous scholar awards and scholarships. His directorial feature debut If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle won him the Silver Bear - Grand Prize of the Jury and the Alfred Bauer Award for innovation in cinema at the 2010 Berlin IFF. The film also received many other best film and best director awards. He is now working on his third feature film, America, and holds the position of director and coordinating professor at The Acting School in Bucharest, Romania.
