Glassland

Somewhere in present-day Dublin, a young taxi driver named John spends his miserable time working night shifts and taking care of his mother, who is an alcoholic. As he tries to find money for a detox center for his mother, John will resort to actions he never thought he was capable of. This minimal, moving drama by the Irish filmmaker Gerard Barrett is an honest study of a malfunctioning (to say the least) parent-child relationship, and a portrait of the Irish working class and the impoverishment of people like John.
