The film that established in European cinema the Austrian director Michael Haneke as an anatomist of violence follows a teenage boy obsessed with a violent scene in a videotape. No other director has been as persuasive as Haneke about the fact that the birth of evil may not always be detected by the human eye, but can certainly be captured by the camera.
