The Photograph

The meeting between a communist’s son who wants to leave his small town and an immigrant who dreams of going back home becomes an elaborate allegory of the history of contemporary Greece. Anarchist filmmaker Nikos Papatakis condenses in less than two hours all the incongruities of the period from the Civil War through to the return of democracy in 1974, revealing the sweeping power of the collective imaginary and the interdependence of the weak and the powerful.
