The Moromete Family

Moromeții

58th TIFF: Greek Premiere

In the Romanian countryside during the 30s, a few years before World War II, a villager named Ilie Moromete is desperately trying to organize his life according to traditional local values and instill them into his family. But times are changing and the first signs of a new age are looming on the horizon. An exemplary adaptation of a thousand-page classic novel, the film presents a memorable collection of characters and revisits a critical period in Romanian history with sympathy and humour, by attaching a universal significance to the chronicle of a family dissolution.
